The estate is situated close to the Russian border, in the middle of the northern Finnish wilderness. The origins of the estate can be tracked back to 1686, when the Finnish ancestors of the Pohjola family arrived at this beautiful spot next to Lake Vuotunki having skied cross country from the Sotkamo region, over 200 km to the South . The current house, Pohjolan Pirtti, dates from 1891 and is constructed from old hand-crafted timber. The house sits on top of a slope with a traditional Finnish countryside vista, over the beautiful lake Vuotunkijärvi.
The main building and all other surrounding buildings have been renovated and partly rebuilt in 2007. A modern kitchen was built in the main building as well as lodging facilities upstairs. The Pohjola surrounding is ideal for traditional parties, weddings, birthdays or Christmas Banquets.
In the beginning of the 19th century of Pohjola history, the estate provided food and shelter, as weel as transportation by horse to people who where travelling eg. to Paanajärvi in Russia. If you come to visit the Pohjolan Pirtti restaurant, decide to take lodging, relax in the Äijän Saunas or arrange a party, you can be sure that you will hear stories or feel the originality of the estate!
